Cannabis Helps CTE in NFL Players

The new Will Smith movie, Concussion, shows how dedication to science elevated the discovery of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). This traumatic brain injury can cause dementia, depression, and premature death for NFL players. Today, we would like to discuss the medicinal benefits and relief cannabis can provide for this disease. And, although there is no cure to date, the knowledge of how cannabis helps CTE is a step in the right direction.

Medical Cannabis helps CTE

Medicine has evolved, and marijuana could be upheld as a miracle drug in this instance. Instead, it’s bogged down with negative political and cultural stigmas. We must destroy that reality to create tomorrow’s future making people aware of what could potentially be a saving grace for those with the disease. Unfortunately, it’s going to take millions of dollars and extensive research to determine if cannabis can prevent CTE.  In the meantime, we know how it can be helpful in the interim.

How it Works

When there is a deficiency with our endocannabinoid system, cannabinoids can bind to receptors throughout our body to supplement which sites require relief.  For example, THC binds with primary receptors in the brain (psychoactive) while CBD (non-psychoactive), binds with primary receptors in the body.  Medical cannabis can help with CTE by allowing the right cannabinoids to bind with the right receptors to achieve relief, relaxation, or stimulation needed based on the patient.

CTE Treatment

This is a very real disease; studies show a high percentage of deceased players tested positive for CTE.  External protection of the brain by way of protective gear can only go so far which means we have to explore internally. With hundreds of studies available, clinicians are proving how the right formulation of cannabis is a non-intoxicating lifesaver.  The kicker is that the formulation of cannabinoids without THC will not produce the psychoactive effect of getting “high”.

Athletic Performance

NFL athletes can still perform because cannabis helps CTE without diminishing their skills and capacities. We can’t change the past, but the future of a natural, non-addictive alternative to painkillers and depression pills is here to provide relief to these talented players. Let’s huddle up around this issue to keep our heads in the game long after the final snap.
