New York Medical Marijuana Program Updates

Since cannabis is now legal in New York, you don’t have to have a medical card to buy cannabis. However, having your medical card allows some benefits that recreational users will not have.

If you are under 21, you may be able to get your medical cannabis card in New York in order to use medical marijuana at 18 years old.

There is also a higher possession limit for how much cannabis you will be able to purchase and possess.

As a medical card holder, you may access a greater number of dispensaries that are for medical marijuana patients only. With the recent opening of recreational use, there will be many more dispensaries to buy medical marijuana in New York as well as more NYC dispensaries. Additionally, buying medical weed in New York from licensed dispensaries ensures the product is safe and tested.

Medical Cannabis Patients

In New York, medical cannabis patients may possess a 30 day supply of cannabis to be determined by the physician. Recreational adults may possess up to 3 ounces for personal use. So, if you are a medical marijuana patient your possession limits may be higher.

Additionally, certified patients get the ability to cultivate their own cannabis plants. Certified patients, who are at least 21 years old, may grow up to 6 cannabis plants. In technical terms, this is three immature and three mature plants at their private residence. Plants must be concealed from public view and are for personal consumption use only.
